MELANIN is responsible for skin colour and protection against ultraviolet light. However, excessive melanin production induces hyperpigmentation disorders. Universiti Malaya Associate Prof Dr Kim Kah Hwi from the Faculty of Medicine’s physiology department said tyrosinase is a rate-limiting enzyme in melanogenesis.
